All Levels Wheel and Hand Building

Learn to create pieces using either handbuilding, throwing or a combination of both that can be used for either functional or sculptural work. Surface decoration techniques demonstrated will include applied texture, colored slips and glaze application. You are encouraged to let your instructor know of any project you may have in mind and it will be used to feed the class demonstrations. This class is designed for all skill levels.

Beginner & Intermediate Wheel and Hand Building

Learn to throw bowls, cylinders, vases and plates on the potter's wheel as well as the fundamentals of handbuilding techniques such as slab, pinch, coil and extrusion fabrication. Basic surface decoration and glazing techniques will also be demonstrated. Satisfy your curiosity and experience a fun and thorough introduction to ceramics.

Intermediate & Advanced Wheel and Hand Building

Practice and Refine your throwing and handbuilding techniques and develop your personal style that will make your work unique and recognizable. You are encouraged to communicate to your instructor your personal project and set of goals. It can be as diverse as throwing on a larger scale, making well fitted lids or elegantly balanced bottles or incorporating alteration techniques in your handbuilding or wheel thrown work. The instructor will demonstrate more advanced in surface decoration and glazing.

Observational Sculpture

This class will be focused on the power of observation and is based on working from models. Students will learn to sculpt anatomy figure such as heads, bust, feet etc, but also natural elements such as flowers, branches, or really anything you can come up with. Students can bring 3 Dimensional inspiration objects or pictures. The class will cover all techniques from slabs; pinch building and even wheel throwing in order to find the best way to sculpt a variety of forms that are properly built to fire successfully in a kiln. Specific projects are welcome!

Make-ups: Up to 2 missed classes can be made up during the same session if the student has given 24 hour prior notice he/she will miss a class.
Tools: Pottery tool kit is required and can be purchased for $15 at registration or on your first class.
Firing Fee: 4 cents/cubic inch covers bisque and glaze firing.

SIP & SPIN CLASS - 2014/2015 Dates!

Tuition: $65/person

Friday night is for letting loose and relaxing! Couples, singles and friends come join us and get a little dirty while enjoying the wine or beer you brought in. This class can be repeated many times but gives you the freedom to register one class at a time. Our instructor will show and assist you with the basic techniques of the potter's wheel and will move on to more advanced projects if you are a repeat offender :) We will glaze and fire one piece at no extra cost. There is an extra $8 for any additional piece you may decide to get fired. The glaze color varies every week. We will contact you approximately 2 weeks after your workshop, when your work is ready to be picked up. Please register before the class as space is limited.

Pottery Workshop Tuition: $65

This workshop will introduce you to the basic skills of throwing on the potter's wheel. No prior experience is required. You will get to keep the bowl or cylinder you have successfully created. We will glaze and fired it for you with our glaze pick of the week and we will contact you approximately 2 weeks after the workshop when your piece is ready to be picked up. Additional work can be glazed and fire at an additional cost of $8/piece. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.

20 weeks Thursday AFTER SCHOOL POTTERY - Ages 7 and Up

Children will be exposed and gain the experience of an actual professional pottery studio. During each weekly program, the students will learn to use the potters wheel as well as hand building / sculpting techniques. Multiple surface decoration techniques will be demonstrated and used. No prior experience is required. More challenging work will be assigned to students with previous experience.

20 weeks session: $1,077-$1,117 (depending on payment option)
Option 1 - Full Pay: $1,077
Option 2 - Installment Payment Plan: $417 down payment + 5 payments of $140 on 1/29, 2/28, 3/29, 4/29, and 5/29.

Children from PS84 will be picked up on foot at 2:30pm. We accept drop off from all others schools between 3 and 3:30pm.

Upon arrival at the studio, children will have some time to eat a snack (provided by you) and play safely in the garden. At 3:30pm class will starts and end promptly at 5:30pm.

In the event a child stops attending classes and tuition payment was done in full, cancellation will be accepted in writing at info@choplet.com by 2/16 and 50% balance payment will be refunded. After 2/16, no cancellation will be possible and payment plans will be due in full.

11 weeks Friday AFTER SCHOOL POTTERY - Ages 4 - 7: Adult Optional

These ceramics classes are specially geared towards fun and artistic discovery. We offer expert instruction that will lead participants on the path of creative discovery. In our friendly and relaxed environment, your child will gain knowledge and confidence in the arts, while learning creative thinking. Parents are welcome to register and join the fun if they wish!

11 weeks session: $429-$439 (depending on payment option)
Option 1 - Full Pay: $429
Option 2 - Installment Payment Plan: $219.50 down payment + second payment of $219.50 due 2/09 for Winter or 5/17 for Spring.

Parents can register for this class along with child.

Children from PS84 will be picked up on foot at 2:30pm. We accept drop off from all others schools between 3 and 3:30pm.

In our friendly and relaxed environment, your child and yourself will gain knowledge and confidence in the arts, while learning creative thinking.

Saturday: 9:00 - 10:30 AM

10 weeks session: $600-$620 for 2 participants (depending on payment option).
Option 1 - Full Pay: $600
Option 2 - Installment Payment Plan: $310 down payment + second payment of $310 due 2/10 for Winter or 5/18 for Spring.

CLAYMATION AND WHEEL THROWING CAMP - Ages 7 - 14

This exciting new children's class will be an introduction to wheel throwing, hand building, and 3-D stop motion animation. Besides learning basics in vessel making and sculpting, students pieces will come alive through the art of claymation. In this coarse students will invent dynamic characters in a plot driven story line. Students will work as a team sculpting and directing their own video shorts which will be posted to YouTube for friends and family to enjoy! WHEEL THROWING AND HANDBUILDING CAMP - Ages 7 - 14

Children and teens (ages 7 to 14) are invited to join a professional ceramic studio and explore the numerous possibilities clay has to offer, such as hand building, sculpting, tile/mosaic making, decorating and glazing, and wheel throwing. At our facility, students have the satisfaction of creating an artwork from scratch and bringing it to its final completion. Every day participants are encouraged to explore their creativity and begin a new project led by an accomplished artist.

WORKSHOPS: Mold Making/Slip Casting & Raku

Mold Making/Slip Casting Workshop Tuition: $200 (Members = $180)

CHOPLET Ceramics studio will be conducting a 2 day, 7 hours mold making workshop. You will make your own mold of the prototype you will bring and learn to slip cast it. The prototype can be made in clay but you can also use industrial objects or nature elements... the possibilities are almost endless!

Raku Workshop Tuition: $165

Want to spice it up? Bring a new type of firing to your artistic expression and register for a Raku firing workshop! If you are thinking about commercializing one of your design or wish to introduce shape repetition in your creative endeavor, then the mold making workshop is for you!
